"Oh, the noise! Oh, the noise! Noise! Noise! Noise!
That's one thing he hated! The NOISE! NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!"
To repeat #5, coding style is about communication.
The goal of style is not to enforce consistency. It is to make the code
easier to read. They allow one programmer to talk to the other through
the code without a lot of unnecessary in-the-head translation going on.
Style should not get bogged down in syntactical issues, and we Perl
programmers love our syntax. Thank you all for the demonstration.
The tricker problems are the higher order problems. How are variables
and methods named? When do we split something off into a method? Into
its own file? When do we use OO when do we use functions? What's the
preferred date handling module? What are the error handling conventions?
What are the *abstractions*?

OH GOD!! It's LINUX! All you Linux fanboys go wild! It never crashes!
It'll wash your underpants! It'll eat your dog for you, if you want your
dog to be eaten! It'll make you attractive and smell good and... it'll...
uh... uh. Man, I'm so sick of this shit.

Title: Newsletter Changes: Imminent
Category: Computing
by Dennis Faas, infopackets editor
http://www.infopackets.com
I can't imaging what my life would be like if I didn't know how to program
in PERL.
Side note: PERL stands for Practical Extraction and Reporting Language, and
is a robust programming language frequently used for creating programs that
run on web servers. (Source: wmo.ch) Perl's elaborate support for regular
expression matching and substitution has made it the language of choice for
tasks involving string manipulation. The language's highly flexible syntax
and concise regular expression operators, make densely written PERL code
indecipherable to the uninitiated. The syntax is, however, really quite
simple and powerful and, once the basics have been mastered, a joy to
write. (Source: hyperdictionary.com)

> Google Adsense: costs pennies to use and generates dollars in return!
------------------------------------------------------------
Do you Google?
Everyone knows that Google.com is the best search engine on the Internet,
with over 250 million queries per day (Source: google.angel-cage.de). And,
if you've used Google before, then you've probably noted tiny ad placements
(called AdWords) located to the right of Search results.
But did you know that regular people -- like yourself -- are generating a
substantial second income simply by creating their own AdWord campaigns in
their spare time? It's true -- and you can do it, too.
So, how does it work? Answer:

Title: Is XP SP2 necessary, since my router acts like a firewall?
Category: Windows
by Dennis Faas, infopackets editor
http://www.infopackets.com
Gazette Reader Kathy O. writes:
" Dear Dennis,
I am getting ready to build a new computer and plan to put Windows XP Home
Edition with XP Service Pack 1, although I have already ordered the XP
Service Pack 2 CD from Microsoft. As it stands now, I will be running both
computers from my LinkSys router; however, I was told by a friend that I
would need to turn off Windows XP's firewall from the Control Panel after I
install Service Pack 2.
Is this true?
And also, is it necessary to apply XP Service Pack 2 since my router acts
like a firewall? If so, should I disable the Windows Firewall? I have
Norton Antivirus / Norton Firewall installed on my machine. "
My response:
There are a number of issues to address here, as the majority of your
questions are based on incorrect assertions. Let me try to break it down
into short-but-sweet answers.

Then it looks like you are storing numerical data in a text field. What
is login in your table and in your form??? What do you use it for?? Did
you enable debugging to see the actual query?
Oh, and about what you are doing wrong: you are not using cfqueryparam
;)

Hmm,
Or even (given that 1.3.0 is the version number):
$ for f in $(ls -d *1.3.0*); do if [[ -f $f ]]; then md5sum $f > $f.md5;
fi;done
To create the md5sums.
I think we could be able to automate most of the process with some
judicious scripting.
Cheers,
Rory

Jeff, you might want to have a look at http://ufaq.org/. Then go to
http://www.ufaq.org/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=21
Click on the "Thunderbird" group (you don't have to register to do
this). You might find you're answer with a little lurking, if not you
can post you're question. The folks are really knowledgeable and they
will undoubtedly solve your problem, if it can be solved. It's an
invaluable resource for all things Netscape/Mozilla.
I used to give advice about Netscape products back in the day, but as
you can see from my headers, I'm stuck in the Wayback Machine!

There's sample code in PyOpenGL and OpenGLContext for saving canvases to
PNG or JPEG formats using PIL. Saving to Postscript requires
considerably more work (if you're implying saving as triangles, lines
and the like). There is a GPL library which lets you do this, and I
have an old SWIG wrapper for it sitting around somewhere (I think,
haven't touched it in years), but even then, it's fairly poor quality
compared to capturing a bitmap image.
Anyway, the function for reading a buffer is glReadPixels:
http://pyopengl.sourceforge.net/documentation/manual/glReadPixels.3G.xml
see the end of that man page for pointers to Python sample code.
Good luck,
Mike

Sorry, yes, I understood your first email, I left out the word "heard"
by accident in my email this morning.

No I haven't! I have Framework 1.1 without SP1 - because I've heard of
the same problem. So I'm waiting for the patch.

the same thing, and Nahum seems to have...

Yeah, I'd heard that too and so had not installed it yet.
I'm currently getting massive slowdown problems when just editing code,
lots of random pauses while it seems to allocate more memory. D2005
quite easly and quickly uses more than 600mb, I've seen it get to 850mb
and have read about 1.2gb by just coding for a couple of hours.

Currently waiting for SP1

Hi all
I'm trying to use displaytag
http://demo.raibledesigns.com/appfuse/demos/users-edit.jsp
<http://demo.raibledesigns.com/appfuse/demos/users-edit.jsp> and I'm trying
to reproduce the table on this page.
I need the checkboxes to select/deselect all the other ones and I need the
checkboxes to hold the ID from my bean class. Here is my code.
Can anybody tell me how to achieve this?
Thanks
Donie

I have several clients connected to an Exchange server via DAV. When some o=

these folks try to send messages with large attachments (8-10MB) they are
notified that their message cannot be sent, with the following error:
=B3A unknown error # 18493 occurred. Your mailbox has exceeded the size

Our mailbox quota is 100MB, but none of these people are anywhere close to
that limit. I=B9ve searched the archives without success...any suggestions fo=

a resolution? All clients are running OS X 10.3.6 with the full set of

Thanks for the input, Renee, and welcome to the group. You were indeed lucky,
and still are truly blessed. We actually did try that with Faith after coming
upon the same problem. She cried so hard she threw up. It was horrible. I
talked to the doctor, and he said that's ok, it's not harming her, just stick
with the plan and eventually she'll come around. He was surprised she was such
a strong-willed child, and told us that kind of behavior doesn't usually show
up until around 18-24 months. That didn't sit too well with me, but we tried
one more night, and that was all we could bear. Listening to her scream on the
monitor and start choking, then running in the room to find her and the crib
all full of puke was so horrible, and not worth it. I still wouldn't trade
this for that, as miserable as this can be sometimes.
Renee A Crabtree <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:Hi, I'm pretty new to this list and
this is my first time responding.
I, too, am still nursing my almost 8 month old son. He went through a
terrible sleep pattern where I would rock him to sleep and the second I
bent into a 45 degree angle to put him in his crib, he startled away and
would scream his head off. I think a few things led him to this
separation anxiety...1) When he wakes up around 5:00 am I bring him to
bed with me to nurse and then to go to sleep together. 2) We would rock
him to sleep every night. There was nothing we could do to get him to
not wake up and cry when placed in his crib. I know there aren't too
many fans of the cry-it-out method but since I knew he was not hungry,
sick, or had a dirty diaper, I had to do something to get to sleep. We
started a bedtime routine...Change into pj's, feed, read 2 books, rock
for 100 rocks and then put in his crib. What we did was let him cry for
5 minutes and then check on him. We'd tell him it's okay, we love him
and to go to sleep. Then we'd wait another 10 minutes and go back in.
Then wait 15 minutes. The longest he ever cried was 30 minutes total.
Now, we put him in his crib and he's out in 30 seconds. And he doesn't
wake up until 5 or 6 am. It's bliss. I'm sure we were just lucky but I
thought I'd share in case it could help.
On a side note, if your baby is older he physically should be able to
sleep through the night (meaning 5 or 6) without getting hungry. But
every baby's different, right?

ugg.... so you can't even try to adjust your schedule
to theirs... eekkk. My Mom says that Terri and I were
like a dual alarm clock! We were almost always
wanting the SAME thing at the SAME time. They left us
together for most of elementary school... we were
trouble if spareated. Middle school was the first
"alone time" we had. I remember being excited and
scared at the same time. Terri said that she was
scared to death for the first 2 months everyday..
until we would have a class together. By eightth
grade... we were switching classes.... LOL. But that
first semester of 6th we didn't see each other until
it was time to leave.... we DID NOT like it!

Hi,
My current task/problem is the following: I need to implement TFIDF
document term ranking using Jakarta Lucene to compute a similarity rank
between arbitrary documents in the constructed index.
I saw from the API that there are similar functions already implemented
in the class Similarity and DefaultSimilarity but I don't know exactly
how to use them. At the time my index has about 25000 (small) documents
and there are about 75000 terms stored in total.
Now, my question is simple. Does anybody has done this before or could
point me to another location for help?
Thanks for any help in advance.
Christoph

I am trying to compile a channel exit on HP-UX 10.20 system. I am using
a gcc compiler v2.95.2 with binutils v2.11. The compile completes but
at the link step I am getting an error "invalid loader fixup....". When
I go on the HP site I found this is normally caused by the independent
code switch +z for aCC native compiler the equivalent to that with the
gcc compiler is -fPIC which I am using. My make has the following switches:
gcc -Wall -Wno-unused-variable -fPIC chlexit.c
and my ld step has:
ld chlexit -b -z

Hi all
I'm trying to use displaytag
http://demo.raibledesigns.com/appfuse/demos/users-edit.jsp
<http://demo.raibledesigns.com/appfuse/demos/users-edit.jsp> and I'm trying
to reproduce the table on this page.
I need the checkboxes to select/deselect all the other ones and I need the
checkboxes to hold the ID from my bean class. Here is my code.
Can anybody tell me how to achieve this?
Thanks
Donie

Will -- that def'n doesn't seem too botched to me. :-)
I've been mucking about with Spring lately and have been happy with some of
the decoupling it's enabled. I'd really like to see some of Stan's ideas in
the Vel implementation. I'd really like to be able to config multiple
Velocity Engines in a Spring config, passing in logging config params
(filename), or full blown Logger Objects, and classloader params or real
ClassLoader instances.
The more I see of Spring, the more I like the "Magic" of what I think of as
"declarative bean configuration".
Cheers,
Timo
P.S. I'm also wondering how Spring may (or may not) improve Velocity Tools
config/setup.... not sure yet.

I have just received the catalog from Kerry Taylor Auctions with the
pictures of bobbins from the collection of Christine and David Springett. being
sold
on the 16th of December.
They are all very beautiful. It makes me wish for a ticket to London!
This catalog will be a 'collectable' itself.

In reply to Frederick Sparber's message of Tue, 14 Dec 2004 12:11:53 -0600:
Hi Fred,
[snip]
>If the magnetic field of the electron repels the proton field or balances the
>8.0e-8 newton attractive electrostatic force
>between the electron and proton, how can you get a fractional orbit electron?
[snip]
I think the problem here is the assumption that the magnetic field interaction
between proton and electron is responsible. It isn't.
Clearly the primary balancing force is the centrifugal force, or if you will,
the interaction of the charged electron with it's own magnetic field (which I
suspect is the same thing, because the magnetic field energy and the kinetic
energy of the electron are one and the same thing. Furthermore, centrifugal
force derives directly from kinetic energy, hence from the self magnetic field).
Regards,
Robin van Spaandonk

I have the same error, also no other emulator or simulator running. Environment
is XP SP2, no FW. I remember that it worked with PODS 1.0.
