Really? I'm wondering, because:

| drwxr-xr-x 2 visp visp 512 Jun 11 00:00 /e/visp/var/bind
| root@en4:/e/visp/var
| # ps -ax |grep named
| 1496 ?? Ss 14:15.35 /e/visp/sbin/named
If you had startup problems with BIND I guess it was something else.
