Yeah, I'm working on the gdb cgen port and I just wanted to make sure
what I do is consistent with what already exists.
I agree that runtime switching isn't very useful.  Perhaps a more
useful (and simpler) thing to do would be an instruction to swap the
byte-order of a word.
