And that is fair enough, I just need them to disappear completely so the
result shows no artifact - just like on openseamap.org.

Ok, I have downloaded them - and the behavior is different (which is a
surprise to me, but hey!).

With the js files hosted on the server the tiles become transparent,
but still with a rectangle and 'broken document' icon for each missing tile.
