Hi, my map ( http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:OpenSeaMap_and_Garmin_nautical_chart_p lotter ) is made especially for the Garmin marine device series. Those marine devices have some problematic restrictions which makes map making very complicated. My map works on most non marine devices anyway, but could look better on those units. If you want to create your own map that makes better use of Garmin handheld device´s capabilities, things should be lot easier as you don´t have to care for marine device´s restrictions: 1. Take someone´s mkgmap style of a Topo (hiking or mountain biking) map, that looks good on your device. 2. Include the default marine style (seamark layer) to this style. You have to download mkgmap sources and find it in recources/styles/marine. Unfortunately mkgmap´s seamark rendering capabilities are very outdated. Most older seamark tags are rendered. Some seamarks (about 500 in Europe) cause warnings or errors. But all the new seamark tags defined lately for the upcoming iENC import or water depths are not yet supported by mkgmap, at all. It would be a good idea, if someone familiar with the latest seamark tagging scheme could explain it to the mkgmap developers. Otherwise we will end up with great nautical data in the OSM database, that cannot be used on the water, because it cannot be brought to our GPS receivers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This SF.net email is sponsored by Windows: Build for Windows Store. http://p.sf.net/sfu/windows-dev2dev _______________________________________________ Openseamap-maps mailing list Openseamap-maps@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/openseamap-maps
