So I officially declare 1.8 feature-frozen. I think I still have one or
two bugfix-patches pending, and I ask everybody to stop adding features
and only fix bugs until the release.

To finish it we will need some help from the user community. The Wiki
page at http://opensg.vrsource.org/trac/wiki/Planning1_8release should
cover the topics. Core-people please take a look and let me know what I
missed or what's unclear. I would like to open it up to users on Monday,
so please let's get this done by then. I hope a week is enough to get
everything tested, so that we can get the release out by the end of the
week.

I have tentatively put a MacOS release, which we don't have right now. I
would love to get a db on a Mac, but for that we would need a Mac that's
permanently connected to the net. As building in general works I would
hope that setting up a db is not going to be a big issue. I would also
need some help in what it takes to package a library on MacOS for
standard installation. Is this important enough to stall the release for
  it?

Thanks

        Dirk
