As said before I was just wrong on my assertion that
compare(0, n, "xxx") is equivalent to compare("xxx");
Unfortunately this came to me after I went home so I could
not send a mail in time ;-)

sorry to jump on this but why didn't you use the wrapper we already
have in OSGBaseFunctions.{h|inl} for the strcasecmp ;-), as you where
not the first one to encounter MS wonderful world of remapped names ;-)
