hmmmm .. I at first attributed the 3400 system's slow performance to it being a dual system with the ensuing increased memory handling overhead.
I've tested the 3400 in my uniprocessor system back when I first ran into the problem - no deal, same problem unfortunately. Another system with the (AGP) FX 3000 had the same problem as well so I don't think it's a pci express related problem as well.
The problem is not so much the slow graphics card memory <-> cpu memory transfer but more the fact that the card seems (is there a way to know for sure?) to swap at all ... it seems like all that extra memory isn't really put to too much use.
