Hm, that's interesting. What card are you running, and what driver? Well, you don't have to use the ProxyBuilder, you can write that yourselves. But the ProxyGroup really is designed exactly for this situation, so I think would be better to use it instead of writing something new yourself. Essentially the core problem is splitting the model into independent parts.
