One of the main reasons to start the rewrite. For this case
the question is not 'in all cases' but more or less in any
case. I'll check if there is an non invasive workaround but

Ok. I've done a 'proper' workaround (use create() and manually copy
fields of interest), so it's not critical to fix this just for me
(especially if it involves a hack).
