no, that won't help, since SimpleMaterial (as a base of
SimpleTexturedMaterial) defaults to being lit. STM also defaults to use
GL_REPLACE as texture function, which in fact is a bit of a nonsensical
combination. Maybe STM (but *not* SM) should be changed to call
setLit(false) in its constructor ?
