Hi!
My thesis is nearly finished. Status is: everything described in the starter
guide works fine.
I have some problems with Sort First and Sort Last. After building OpenSG 1.8
by myself SortLast
works now. Sort First is very very slow now and jpeg compression don't work
(frusttrating). But maybe I find out what that's about before I have to finish
my work (June 6th is deadline :-| ).
Documentation wasn't really useful. As mentioned in the starter guide this
isn't a new problem. I know that problem very well. My documentation in another
project is also bad ;-) No time for that. But maybe I find the time to help
here a bit... Don't know. Just now I have many things to do...
Wasn't easy. Had a lot of trouble just to get something simple to run in a
cluster. That's why I asked for a simple example. Mainly it works. Okay. But
how it works looks strange. With Sort Last I am on it. I think now I am on a
way, where I get, what I would expect from this system.
Because of my thesis my institute (welfenlab) will decide if there will be
further work with OpenSG. We thought more about using it for our projects.
After this mail I wonder what the status of the project is. Who is really
working on the library? On the homepage I read about many big companies just
using OpenSG. okay. But who is doing the development? Where is the focus just
now? Who is responsible for the cluster part (main reason for us to use
OpenSG)? and so on.
Where is participation needed so work can go on or just would be easier? I want
to mention it in my thesis in some way I think. Or as a note for my colleagues.
So that we know where we are, when we start greater projects with OpenSG. And
maybe if my prof thinks it's really useful for us, we will participate in
development if we can add something useful.
Thanks very much.
and good night from Hannover,
Marcus

Betreff: [Opensg-users] Cluster problems
Hi Everybody,
I've been going through the unfinished issues in my OpenSG-Users Inbox, and I
think I covered most of them. If there is anything pending that you haven't
heard about in a while, please resend.
The exception to that is clustering. I haven't had time to really look into
that, and it's not trivial in my current network setup. I will try to find some
time to look into that (or have somebody look into that) in the near future,
but
I can't promise an ETA, sorry. :(
Yours
Dirk
