not exactly, but I have a strong suspicion that it did not compile on
that platform at the time this was written (which according to cvs
annotate was around the dawn of time).

Can we try to find out if it compiles on more recent windows compilers
first, please? If that indeed works we could get rid of the #ifndef and
do not have to fear about breaking anybodies code.
