I don't see a reason why OpenSG should change the build system. The scons/python build system is working very good for a few years now and technololgicaly I don't see what could be better. Sometimes issues come up like forgetting to put another option into the system or general Visual Studio / Python problem Installation problems but this could be easily checked within OpenSG Scons to make some prerequisite checks (Python Version etc.)
I think OpenSG has other areas that could benefit much more by putting time into it. But the good thing with Open Source projects is that there is mostly no dictator that decides where to spend resources. So if you think there is something that needs to be done/added I suggest to simply start and see if other people will join.
