I've only glanced over the example code you linked in the follow up 
message, but it seems to use multiple passes with different 
stencil/depth buffer settings to achieve the desired effect [1].
Have you looked at Tutorials/33ClipPlaneCaps.cpp? In it Johannes Brunen 
shows how to make geometry that is capped by OpenGL clipping planes 
appear solid by filling parts of the clipping plane.
