You might want to take a look at the interface proposals for cable beach (http://opensimulator.org/wiki/AssetServerProposal/ClientDocs). Exposing a (secure) interface to the asset and inventory services is one of the objectives of that project. Code for the CB asset and inventory servers are on forge.
