I suggest that Wifi is included as an addon and not enabled by default.
I even suggest that things like FreeSWITCH, groups, offline IM, etc. could be treated the same.
Alternatives can be provided, no need for core devs to endorse any one over another.
The trick is to make OpenSim configuration easy and let folks move fast and then adjust and tailor what they need I think.
