It would be nice to have a “new” and improved configuration design. It could be done with a flag indicating to use legacy or new and improved.
The issue has always been - ever time it comes up in the past - that no one can agree on what “improved” or “better” means. The design of OS being such that there are a vast number of different configurations running out there - and I guess that is a good thing.
