I think opensim runs fine on mono, pretty regardless of the version. The correct question is probably more why would MS deprecate the 4.0 in favor of 4.5 ? My best guess is cause 4.0 probably is pretty buggy, it was pre-alfa and should not have been used anyway by anyone ?
