Why not just experiment with a "Gift-exchange" which is totally non-taxable? If you code something nifty, and give it away, those that take it are in your "debt". You ask them to do something for you, and thus relieve that debt once their labor effort is fair exchange for yous. Simple, no lawyers, no accountants and no liability.

This currency line of discussion was proposed on the OpenWonderland list, where they were directed to the Commercial User/Site Agreement license with Java (for thousands of bucks), and they clammed up. Ric
