If you're using the latest osgrid distro files, you may want to try commenting
out the lines
Cap_WebFetchInventoryDescendents = "localhost"
Cap_FetchInventoryDescendents2 = "localhost"
in [ClientStack.LindenCaps]. Having these HTTP inventory capabilities enabled usually results in much better
performance with large inventories, but there are some bugs yet to be fixed which cause problems under some
circumstances (e.g. attachments not appearing and being registered at 'invalid positions'). I meant to take a look at
these issues last Friday but unfortunately the complete holiday brain shutdown kicked in early :)
Disabling these capabilities will cause the viewer to fallback to the older UDP inventory mechanisms which don't have
these issues.
If you're not running these settings then I don't know what the issue might be.

Just curious, with the lastest opensim version
inventory is very hard to load after you cleared cache in viewer.
Are there more that have the problem ?
I new reverted 1 water sim back to a october version so
i can loadf inventory normal and fast.
The problem with latest version is if you clear cache.
The relog. And then try to open inventory, nothing happens are barly anything
get loaded a few items.
If you do the A... B... C trick, it still keeps hanging on loading ......
almost nothing get loaded.
with the latest version you only can load inventory the hard wat, open every
folder seperate.
I have tried it on my sim, my own water sim, wright plaza, lbsa, sandbox plaza
its everywhere
the same it dont load, until you start or find older opensim version.
Tried it with imprudence 1.4b2 & phoenix mesh. both have that problem.
For now i keep 1 old region, to load inventory. :)
