Thinking about this further, I think that creating a separate module for the client recording stats would be better than
putting in switches to a monolithic UserStatistics module. All this is separate from the
OpenSim/Region/CoreModules/Framework/Monitoring stuff :)

There's no security on the calls either which makes things a bit
difficult if you don't want to expose that information. The easiest way
to provide security may be to extend the path with a random UUID, as is
done for capabilities.

It says to add a simple
section to your opensim.ini file and then view the stats on
http://<region-server-ip>:<http-port>/SStats/ but I get
no love when I try this so wondering if the page is out of date.
Thanks in advance if anyone knows the situation with Web Stats..
