That is, OpenSim is already on its own trajectory that yielded new (not available in SL) features like the hypergrid, a choice of ODE and Bullet physics engines, etc. In other words, I would be surprised if anything SL did at this juncture [absent slashing their island rental prices and this might not do anything (remember: "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me")] could negatively impact the development of OpenSim.
