No, only one daemon can run on any single machine, as it has to bind to the SLP port (427).
The jSLP implementation tries to bind to port 427 when it starts up, and if it can't do so, just acts as a UA. Hence, the first Java app that runs on a machine sets itself up as a daemon, and the rest run as UAs.
