I'm expecting other websites to support the Data APIs[1], just as other 
websites will be containers. I also expect other websites to support 
oAuth and/or Authsub. I don't see how that limits it to Orkut and Google 
users.

Yes. But the OpenSocial package is not just about writing and hosting 
gadgets. It's also about writing applications and mashups that use Scial 
Network data. The Javascript APIs and Container SPI (when it comes) are 
one part, the APIs are another part. Or at least that's my reading of 
them.
