Hi everyone, Introducing myself, i'm Stefano Pochet, production manager of Nealab Technologies, italian company that manage www.freebar.it, the biggest social network made in Italy with half million users. Last week we correctly installed shindig and we correctly implemented the container, connecting Shindig to our social network data and implementing the canvas view, the application gallery and an xml fetcher to simply load new applications. Then we tested the system by uploading some applications from: - OpenSocial directory http://www.opensocialdirectory.org/ - Ning open social directory http://opensocial.ning.com/ - Hi5 - Orkut And we realized that the only applications working are the ones who don't use social data. All the applications using social data developed till now are built for a specific container and they don't work, or they don't allow access, to others containers(we also tested that these applications don't work in partuza live example http://partuza.us.chabotc.com/). We have also investigated the code of some OpenSocial applications realizing that some applications explicitly block access from other containers (for example some requires "hi5 feature") and some others give a "bad request" error to any proxy call when the request comes from a different container.
The feeling is that the main part of the OpenSocial applications developed till now are written for a specific container. For this reason we have currently abandoned the OpenSocial container project and we believe that smaller social networks like freebar.it (networks that don't have a developers community and don't have numbers to attract new developers) have to wait some months, while hundreds of new applications OpenSocial fully compliant will be released, to think about the release of a social network container.
