I guess architecturally, I find it a little dissatisfying (and maybe
there is nothing to be done for it) that documentation refers to one
program name, while the actual binaries are called something else.

Is it unreasonable to suggest/recommend/request that the documentation
be edited for delivery into ON?

Cool. Will the man page reference both /usr/bin/gtar and
/usr/gnu/bin/tar as alternative ways of getting to the same program?
(I.e. this may be another case where the documentation needs to be
edited to reflect actuality.)

I understand a desire to minimize changes relative to upstream sources,
but I think accuracy of the documentation trumps (or should trump) that
concern.
