I'm with Gary on this.

It seems like there is a bigger picture/architectural change here
to which gdb fits in (now) and gcc in the future.  It would be
nice if that could be presented to the ARC.

Other tools that come to mind (after gcc): gas and the rest of
the GNU binutils (ld, strip, objdump, etc.)
