All,
As PSARC chair, I would like to thank all of the people who have
participated and are continuing to participate in this discussion. It
got a bit overheated and personal at times, but I think we're past that.
Since this is the first external case to get this sort of ARC review, it
has been a learning experience for all of us. For the Sun folks, it has
been a reminder that we need to remember that the OpenSolaris community
outside Sun does not have the context or institutional memory of the
ARCs available, so we have to be careful to explain why we're making
certain comments or recommendations.
For the participants from outside Sun, the learning included that
discussions among the project team members (even if some of them are Sun
employees) is a separate exercise from the ARC review, and that
conclusions from that discussion must be explained to the ARC.
It looks to me like we're very close to converging on the technical
issues of the case. We will be discussing this case, along with the
other fast-tracks currently active, at the PSARC meeting on Wednesday
(10:00 PDT, 17:00 GMT). John and/or Sherri will send out details on how
to join the meeting for the non-Sun participants.
To aid in having a focused and concise discussion, I would like to ask
the project team to summarize the current proposal, including an updated
spec. Please send this information to the appropriate mailing list by
close of business Tuesday (17:00 PDT, 24:00 GMT).
Thanks again to all for helping define and understand this expanded
review process.
