am looking for a detailed comparison of the Sparc and 64 bit x86
architectures. Specifically, I want to learn when one makes more sense of
the other. Most of the writings I could find don't go into the kind of
detail I would like. I feel that if I want to become a better advocate of
Open Solaris this is a topic I want to understand better.
I am one of those eccentric individuals who has been running Sparc/Solaris
as my primary desktop for the past two years at work and at home. But I
really haven't got into Solaris x86 too much yet. From my own experiences
Solaris/Sparc does not seem as fast at performing single tasks, like
building my Java apps, but I can have a ton of stuff going on in the
background without the user experience missing a beat. But this is why I
want to learn more. I want to know are these just properties of Solaris
or the nifty Sun hardware?
