I don't mean to start a flamewar - I already said Solaris has gotten a lot
better with S10 but come on - it still has slower fork, slower thread creation
the last I checked even on S10. The SPEC benchmarks also are a piece of Crap,
are they?

All I was saying to the OP was that if he uses 1-2 CPU box and cares all about
speed, Linux+Opteron is technically a better choice than buying a SPARC box and
running Solaris on it.

I wasn't arguing that Solaris has inferior feature set or it lacks
stability/reliability, if fact quite the contrary. For the most mission
critical stuff I deal with in production - customers don't even give me a
choice of OS - it's always Solaris on SPARC (although many are hesitant to make
a move to S10 because they are too conservative and can't afford to take any
risk whatsoever).

To say I was trolling because my email ID bounces is not logical - I recently
got fed up with the SPAM I get on that account and deleted it and I haven't yet
found where to change the email address for the opensolaris.org account - I
probably cannot do that, can I?
