Hey I said it in my earlier post that the mailing list software doesn't give me a way to change my email id. I will have to create another ID and I am afraid I will lose history that way! :)
Ok. On the SPEC benchmarks does JBB count as a good one to measure kernel scalability? If so I posted a reply to barts above - Linux/IA-32 achieves 72% of perfect scalability when going from 1 to 8 way. Solaris10/AMD64 (all 64bit kernel, jvm, cpu) achieves 82% when going from 2-way to 4-way. Not apples to apples but enough to prove the point that Linux scalability isn't bad at all. I earlier pointed to a bunch of performance bugs in Solaris against Linux which are in the Solaris bug database, pending since 1999. To me process creation is still very slow in Solaris - Are of these going to be fixed? I would love to see them fixed - yes I like both Solaris and Linux after having extensive experience with both of them.
