The most important thing to do is to set your .make.machines
file to have an appropriate amount of parallelism. This
depends on cpu count and ratio of disk speed to cpu. I run
my 2 processor Opteron like this:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/barts 67% more ~/.make.machines
cyber max=10
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/barts 68%
If you're not getting the CPUs to 100% utilization in the
more parallel parts of the build, crank this up. Solaris
really doesn't mind running with high load averages...
If you don't have a lot of RAM, all bets are off, though;
paging because of too much parallelism is much much slower.
