I fail to see how Linux could be useful for anything. Why? Because I run Solaris x86 on the desktop. It's free. It's better than Linux. I have access to some of the best compilers in the industry (Sun Studio). Servers? Solaris, x86, UltraSPARC, and even SPARC! And they just work, and work, and work. Upgrades? Painless. Binary compatibility? Flawless. Software? Well for starters, there's Blastwave. If I need a specially engineeried piece of software, Blastwave provides enough infrastructure to get it compiled, customized and packaged according to my demanding standards. Mirroring? Sure. Enterprise class. Fast, stable FileSystem? Check. Grid software? Check. Clustering software? Check. So, why would I *ever* want or need to run Linux? What for???
