First, my sincere apologies to all for being missing from these discussions for a while.  My work load, like all of yours surely, has been, and still is, heavy.   I also wanted to have something actually constructive to say.

In summary -

With regard to KDE.  I am currently putting Stefan's KDE work on sunfreeware.com and its
mirrors for use, testing, comments, etc.  I hope to put an announcement up this weekend
when I am sure it is all there and Stefan says it is OK.  The next step will be getting it into the Companion CD environment - then eventually compiled with gcc and some or all of the CCD libraries.
This new part will take a bit of time.

With regard to the Companion CD itself, I have taken the old Sun CCD build environment and
moved all the compiles to gcc, updated some of the sources, edited all the
Makefiles and install scripts, updated the SCCS elements, added the CDDL where
needed, etc. etc.  I have clean builds on SPARC and x86 on Solaris 10 and 11.

I have also built the sccs to subversion conversion programs and moved the sccs workspace to
an svn one.  That is in testing now.  I still need to document this.

I have created a wiki that contains up-to-date information on all the programs and a few
new ones and also a long document on how the entire CCD build process is currently done.  This
document is certainly what I would call a "first draft".

This has all been done because, basically, the CCD build environment was not in good shape,
there was almost no documentation, and most things just did not work.

We still need to set up the hardware, networking, etc so that the community can get to
all the files in an organized way.  I am sure that there will be a lot of critical (hopefully not too hostile) comments about what I have done so far and many many ideas on changes, upgrades, and so forth.

I am looking forward to having the community take over so that all of us can contribute
in a good way.  I certainly hope what I have done will make that happen.

I am still doing a lot of sunfreeware work as requests for software in that form seem to
grow.  Then, just for "fun", I do Mathematica newsgroup moderation, our MathTensor software support, and as a hobby and because I may be an insane person, I am working on a book on Relativity Theory to be published I hope in late 2006, but probably 2007.

Anyway, Happy New Year to all.  More details in January.  Feel free to contact me directly
with questions at [EMAIL PROTECTED].
