ok, so because there are no published benchmarks of SunStudio 10 C++
vs. GCC4 C++, let's just assume GCC4 is faster, with no data to back
up that assumption. past performance notwithstanding.

i have not spent time doing this test since 2002. there is sufficient
and more recent information to this effect on the kde-solaris list
(people trying to build KDE with SunStudio against GCC built QT by
mistake), with predictable results.

if we agree that Sun Studio has better performance, it would make
sense to build everything with Sun Studio, as opposed to taking the
Big Compiler Mish-Mash approach. IMHO. if you disagree, we could throw
in the Centerline and EDG compilers in the mix, let's see what comes
out.
