Jonathan is a smart guy, and even though Scott seems to have all the visability theses days lets not doubt Jonathan's wisdom untill we have a reason to question him. Frankly, I'm standing behind Jonathan and won't bother sweating the small stuff.
And in the meantime, don't forget Calum's comment -- part of the reason for Jonathan to have a blog which he writes himself is that it gets people talking about Sun. Wasn't it Oscar Wilde who wrote "The only thing worse than being talked about, is *not* being talked about" ? It's consciousness-raising for customers and competitors, and while it's difficult to quantify its effect in terms of sales, I know from personal experience that it is having an effect. Friends of mine who aren't Sun customers per se are interested in us again and are getting our products onto evaluation lists. I know of one boutique software development shop which is quite seriously contemplating switching their customers from FreeBSD to Solaris 10 -- without the buzz that a blog like Jonathan's (and active community participation from the rest of us) this wouldn't even be on the drawing board. cheers, James C.
