It's that x45 marketing trick that makes you feel like it's less than $750, when for all intents and purposes, it's $750. While you may not necessarily get below $700, many folks on this list are probably doing development work and Sun does offer developer discounts to companies and individuals.  The upfront hassles are a bit much (purchasing agreements, etc.), but once you're in you do receive some hefty discounts for hardware used for development.
