To be replaced with what? And to what purpose?

All this does is force you to rewrite all your graphical
applications, and puts up a barrier discouraging people
from writing applications for Solaris. Big cost, no gain.

xclock? Don't know. But I open xterms, emacs, and java apps
all the time. Not to mention web browsers and acroread. And
lots of other stuff. I use the networked capabilities of
X all the time.
