I strongly feel that the limit remain at 80 characters for readability. Although I am a Java programmer and don't work with C very often I do take coding Java standards pretty seriously. So much that a worked on a book with a user group I used to belong to: http://www.nejug.org/standards.jsp The group that wrote that book had a long debate about the 80 character limit. But the majority agreed that 80 characters was important for readability, especially if you view the code outside of an IDE, which will be typical for this code base. Think about it, there is a good reason why the newspaper makes articles narrow and not use up the whole page for one line. Imagine how hard it would be to read. 80 characters also will work well for display in the source browser and don't forget about printing, make the lines bigger than 80 and you're stuck with a small font or landscape.
