I think I'm with Darren in that my (perhaps mistaken) impression
of the charter of the Appliances community was that it was
directed at "applying" OpenSolaris in specialized ways and that
the community's product would be mostly in the areas of articles,
case studies, HOWTO-type documents, hardware reviews,
blueprints, etc. I think that's a valuable area but I also
would like to see someone working on changes to the foundation
of Solaris, such as the way it is built, packaged, and
architected for modularity, minimization, and downward
scalability. Maybe the people in the Appliances community
already have all of those things on their minds too and it's
just a matter of clarifying some people's understanding of the
community's purpose. Of course most actual projects in those
areas would overlap with other communities and not live solely
in the Appliances community.
