The archive may reflect a first interest mainly in home build server appliances; but we have not yet gotten to the point that we have ready made solutions. (ZFS as root filesystem would be excellent for user appliances; just rollback to the "factory default" snap shot when resetting and have an infinite number of snapshots for saved configurations.) I'm with Darren that the intention of "appliances" is also "devices with Solaris embedded produced in series".
