No you are not, I remember that too.

In fact, I just happened to have an old S7 root lying around which has
/etc/init.d/keymap which loads specific fonts depending on the
setting of the keyboard type.


well gee .. okay .. I am now going to boot up my old old Solaris 2.5.1 x86
box here and have a look see.  This may take some time as I think the
battery on the motherboard is dead as a doornail and I have to setup the
BIOS manually as well as get the PCI config for the 3Com 3C509 card.

Then I will see for certain ...

This functionality, along with virtual terminal (VT) functionality, was
dropped during the console re-design in Solaris 2.6.
