Specified how? --with-gnu-as doesn't do what you might think it does...
Sorry, I should have been a little clearer; I pointed the gcc configure to the as and ld that I wished to use.
I'm writing this from my Solaris machine right now, so I'll give GCC 4.1.1 a compile tonight, and see how that goes.
