AFAIK, there still is a companion cd. There was one for S10U1 anyway.

gcc was on the companion cd before, but this is a bad idea as it won't get 
updated quickly enough.

What is wrong with having gcc as a part of ON? As long as it gets updated, I 
can't think of why that would be an issue.
