I envy you for moving to Japan!

Thanks. :) It should be wild. I'll be in Sun's office in Yokohama:

But I'd like to also spend a lot of time at the offices in Tokyo ... only a half hour away via train.

But anyways, perhaps you'd be so kind as to update us on what things are like
on the Sun HW / Solaris front in Japan when you get settled in?

Absolutely. My gut tells me that the Japanese are doing way more with OpenSolaris than we can see right now. I'm getting bits and pieces from various people, but I'll find out soon enough.

I'm also especially interested in what's going on with this:

http://www.sun.com/smi/Press/sunflash/2006-05/sunflash.20060515.4.xml

I just have to think that there are some *golden* OpenSolaris community building to do around some of these announcements, don't you? I mean, my goodness ...

And also, I'm going to use my proximity to the rest of Asia to poke around throughout the entire region. I'll do very little travel to the US, actually -- probably only once a year. It will be Asia first, Europe second. But in terms of my online activities, everything stays pretty much as it is now.

I for one have always wondered how UNIX / Solaris aware the Japanese are. Well
Masayuki Murayama is a living legend in Solaris circles, but does that reflect
the real state of affairs in Japan when it comes to Solaris?

Should be interesting to find out, eh? And I do hope to meet Murayama-san some day, as well.

Jim
