I am trying to get a handle on my issues here. Truely I feel that GNOME
may be at fault.

Repeatedly I have done the following :

(1) from the dtlogin screen ( or gdm or whatever the new snazzy thing is )
I login to the console as root

(2) userdel -r dclarke

(3) useradd -c "Dennis Clarke" -d /export/home/dclarke -e "" -f 0 -g csw \
    -m -s /sbin/sh -u 12345 dclarke

(4) passwd dclarke

(5) logout from the root console session

(6) login via the new snazzy gdm/dtgreet thing as this new user dclarke

(7) when presented with a desktop option I select GNOME 2.14

(8) watch as various bad things happen in front of me .. slowly

The process takes a long long time. I watch as the screen goes black
and eventually, after five minutes or so I get an error dialog box, one
after another.

These I click on and dispose of as I try to get to a desktop of some sort.

After a long time I eventually get to a desktop of sorts. I have what
looks to be nautilus ( or some file system navigation tool ) and I try
to get to /usr/openwin/bin and double click on the xterm binary. This
allows me to get sdtimage running to take a snapshot thus :

Another variation on this theme is that there is a step (0) above. I have
at times performs a reboot as step 0.

This is with snv_46 on Sparc. Is anyone else getting stuff like this?
