First of all, thank you for adding the new packages to
Sunfreeware. I have an interesting discovery for you.
I have downloaded and installed the new libxml2-2.6.26
package for x86/Solaris 10 from sunfreeware on my AMD x86 computer. Before I did
that, I uninstalled the original compiled libxml2 (libxml2-2.6.23) before
proceeding with your new package.
Then I
tried to compile php5, but the same problem came back. I tried other avenues to
make it work, but it didn't help, so I removed the package and re-compiled the
same source code from the source browser from OpenSolaris and it worked. It has
become very clear that the libxml2 code may be dependent on specific hardware
(motherboard). Mine is AMD 1GHz, made in 2001. I suspect your working version is
based on other platform probably an Intel machine?
It
looks like some supporting tools may have to be compiled to fit for the right
platform. I will update my comment in the OpenSolaris discuss forum
shortly.

Forgive me, I am very new to this OpenSolaris website, I noticed you mentioned the source browser. I just had a look at it and found it has the lastest libxml2 source code (2.6.23). Does it mean the best way is to download the source code from that and compile rather than using the SunFreeware package?
