Hi,
The instructions are little cryptic. The instructions on the download/ON page refer to
building a development system with all "latest" (as in nightly, bleeding edge)
thingies installed.
You can just choose to install the DVD/CD release of "Solaris Express Community
Release" and be happy and merry :-) Just download the CD/DVD images, burn, install
and off you go.
The issue comes when it's time for upgrade, as you know opensolaris is a work
in progress, so there is a release every fortnight or so. Then to upgrade, you
have the following options:
1. Keep watching the release news, and skip the releases which don't offer
anything too interesting, then download the DVD/CD release, burn and upgrade
installation. Negative is that you'd need to download whole wad of 2.5 G stuff.
2. Keep watching, and follow the procedure in 3(a)/3(b) (for DEBUG build) /blastwave.org (for NON-DEBUG build), to download a smaller bunch (~100MB) and upgrade using BFU process documented there.
NOTICE: If you follow this step, you CANNOT upgrade the installation thereafter
using (1)... you'd have to follow this (2) step thereafter... unless you want
to a clean install using (1).

Go to:
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/downloads/on/
and follow thru Step 3b.
Get the CD or DVD version downloads and just install.
This will provide a pre-built version of Build 48.
Then you can follow Dennis's "Reader's Digest" version of building
ON from source if you have the time and interest.
