is by downloading the Iso's agian and the doing a reinstall

Some suggestions:
- Don't upgrade too frequently if the current install works well. Only
upgrade when you see significant features/fixes you're interested
with.
- Use "Live Ugrade", or run upgrade install from the network, both
save your time when you need to upgrade.
- Use NexentaOS, a GNU style OpenSolaris distribution that supports
online upgrade: "apt-get dist-upgrade".
